Introduction
Even the best
PGDM/MBA degree from the most prestigious business school assumes little
importance if the skills you learnt in the classroom are not applied in the
real world of business. As a result, the value of vocational experience for
PGDM/MBA students and recent graduates cannot be emphasized enough. Often, this
vocational experience is through the form of MBA internships.
Internships can often act as a launchpad to
an employment. Indeed, utilizing internship
opportunity is an
important part of the business school experience for many students.
The summer break between the first and second
year is the conventional internship break.
Beside gaining an
employment after the internship, internship opportunities offer students
valuable insights into an industry or job function as well as hand’s on
experience which makes you stand unique in the market– allowing them to judge
whether or not a role could be the one they were cherishing when they have
thought of their PGDM/MBA programme.
Internship opportunities at
business schools
The
importance of the internship experience is reflected in business schools’
employment reports. For example at
ISTTM, We have 80% of the students who have undergone internships at various
MNCs have secured jobs and being inducted in the same organisation after the
completion of the course. More over Organisations are seeing for an employee
who is job ready and want to spend less on the training of fresher candidates.
An intern is a better choice than a fresher who requires training. Hiring interns gives employers strong opportunities
to identify the right candidate from the talent pool.
Business
schools will always be keen to expand and build their networks of employers
because it enables PGDM/MBA students to draw from a rich vein of internship
opportunities. This, in turn, allows them to keep the skills required by the
industry and update their curriculum in their PGDM/MBA program accordingly.
